The Importance of Compositing in the Digital Era

In today’s digital era, compositing has become a fundamental skill in the creation of visual effects and animations. It involves combining visual elements from separate sources into a single image, creating seamless scenes that captivate and engage audiences. Mr. Juan Restrepo, a senior lighting artist, emphasized the critical role of compositing in modern filmmaking during his sessions.

“Compositing is an area that is very demanding, because all the projects needs somebody doing compositing tasks,” said Mr. Restrepo.

This July, Juan Restrepo visited Vietnam to conduct a MasterClass with young artists at VTC Academy. Within a week, he provided students with hands-on experience in advanced compositing techniques, empowering them to create professional-quality work. The students were thrilled to learn from someone who has worked on iconic projects like “Bumblebee” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.”

Tien Nguyen, a VTC Academy student, shared, “The compositing sessions were eye-opening. I thought I was good enough after learning at VTC Academy, but then I realized I still have a lot to learn from the world’s experts. It’s amazing how much you can achieve with the right techniques”.

“The most important is to understand the technique and practice and practice and practice. If they can do that, they will have many opportunities in the industry,” said Juan.
